The Mechal Fi-1 is an in-development air superiority craft being designed as part of a request for proposals for the Gammetan Civilization. The craft is being designed by major ship designer Mechal Production Industries (MPI), with aerodynamic partnership from HelAux. It will also be manufactured by the former.
MPI accepted the request for proposals on February 5, 2012. Competing against the JamTek C1, HelAux F17 and Armana proposals, its design was, unexpectedly, accepted by Military Command in December of that same year, by which time a bodywork and basic systems outline had been computerized. Its first flight is scheduled for June 2013, and its completion date is targeted as—at the latest—2014.
In terms of armoring, weaponry and speed, as well as maintenance and economy, the Fi-1 greatly out-performed its competitors for the 1-CA RFP. The design of the Fi-1 was very simplistic in its systems, allowing for low-cost maintenance. Due to the ruggedness of the design, the craft was able to sustain itself in flight even with heavy damage.
The Fi-1 featured a twin-tail and a swept-back tapered mid-wing design. Two main engines provided thrust. The fuselage, while aerodynamic, followed a mostly square design. The craft featured a two-personnel crew.
