Helijets (VTOL aircraft with thrust and lift provided by suitably angled jet engines) make up the bulk of the Drakonian military's aviation component. While many are based on airfields or helipads, Valkyrie-class dropships can carry an airborne force from faraway planets into the atmosphere, and provide launch, resupply, repair and recovery.

Piloted vehiclesEdit

Even if an Automaton is flying an aircraft, it is still not considered a drone. These are usually named after birds.

Goshawk Attack HelijetEdit

Goshawk
Status

Operational

Operators

The Empire of Drakonia

Type

Attack Helijet

Wing type

Guidance fins, lift provided by downward facing engines

Shield name

None

Sensors

Missile/Radar warning receiver, radar

Targeting

Nanometer-wave fire control radar, laser targeting (self or others illuminate target)

Navigation

terrain-following navigation

Communication

Radios

Other systems

Flares, ECM jamming, chaff

Crew

2 (Pilot and gunner)

Propulsion

6

Rockets

Vary depending on loadout

Missiles

ATGMs or AAMs

Bombs

None

The Goshawk is designed for tank hunting and fire support and excels at both. Modular wing pods let it carry a mixed load for its role, for example carrying only ATGMs when hunting enemy armor. The top mounted radar suite lets it fire from behind cover, or targeting can be provided by other aircraft/vehicles/infantry. Goshawks typically operate in teams of 2 aircraft with drones marking targets.

Kestrel Light HelijetEdit

Operators

The Empire of Drakonia

Type

Observation, Recon, Target spotting, Light transport/attack

Ejection system

2 weapon pods, one on each side

Shield name

No

Sensors

Radar, missile/radar warning receiver, laser scanning, IR/NV,

Targeting

Nanometer wave fire control radar, laser targeting

Other systems

Flares, chaff, ECM jamming

Armaments

A pod on the side of the craft can hold fixed guns, rockets, or missiles

The Kestrel is a multirole helijet used for everything from scouting to light transport. It is inexpensive and versatile, being able to carry up to four soldiers. However, the Kestrel lacks built-in weapons, and carries significantly less ordnance than a Goshawk.

Sparrow Transport HelijetEdit

Sparrow
Operators

Type

Medivac, transport, gunship

Hull material

Light armor

Shield name

No

Other systems

Standard countermeasure suite

Crew

4 (Pilot, Copilot/chin gunner, side gunners)

Propulsion

4, side mounted

Other

2 dedicated gunner ports for MGs/grenade launchers, additional ones can be fitted on the sides if doors are open

The Sparrow is the default transport unit for the Imperial Army, able to carry troops into battle in a variety of atmospheres and land in storms, on skyscrapers, or in narrow canyons. While maneuverable, it is still vulnerable to anti-air weapons, especially enemy aircraft.

Condor Transport HelijetEdit

Big, can carry a lot of cargo, up to 65 tons. The Condor is fitted with ten "jet" engines, four rotating pods of two engines on the sides and two horizontal jets on the rear. It can insert large numbers of troops and many types of armored vehicle. Being smaller than the Cormorant makes the Condor more useful for resupplying cramped forward outposts.

Cormorant Heavy Transport HelijetEdit

Even bigger than the Condor, the Cormorant can carry up to 160 tons. This enables it to carry almost any vehicle in its prodigious bay, and carry substantial defensive weaponry. While the orbit-capable Archeopteryx-Class Dropship can transport an even larger payload, the Cormorant is still ubiquitous in military actions on atmospheric worlds.

DronesEdit

Drones do not carry a pilot, and are usually smaller than piloted vehicles. Standard nomenclature is from flying insects.
